About I am looking for cheap but safe area in California to buy a house

I am looking for cheap but safe area in California to buy a house!?
My fiancee’s work in Santa Ana mine in west LA, we thinking of buying a small house, I am looking for cheap but safe area in California between these two cites & it can’t be more than $200,000! Any ideas please.

I would google homes in that area. Go on different real estate sites. I heard the state of California is very expensive.

I say the closer you go inland and the further away you get from the coast is your best bet.
