About My High school is very weak in academics will this affect my college acceptance

My High school is very weak in academics will this affect my college acceptance?
I'm a worrier by nature and I just thought of this while browsing online. My highschool is in the middle of no where Alabama and it is a good school but it isn't too strong in academics. I have a 3.83 unweighted GPA (4.33 weighted) a 26 on the ACT and am very active in volunteer work and extracurricular activities. The classes I have takin are hard ones and I'm sure they are at the average level of difficulty, but the school as a whole has a bad reputation for strong academics. I'm a good student, I work hard and I have demanding classes but I'm worried that colleges won't be able to see this. I'm looking at private colleges in the San Francisco Bay area like St. Mary's, Dominican, Santa Ana University, Stanford. And I'm also looking at UCDavis, UCBerkeley, and UCSanta Cruz. I'm really worried that although I have great scores I will be denied because of my alabama public school's reputation. Any help?

Get the best possible grades you can and sign up for the most demanding classes available. Join clubs, and get involved in student government, sports, music, and community activities. All of this will factor into your qualifications. Ask the smartest most demanding teacher you have to write your recommendation. I think you are well qualified to gain acceptance to any of those schools with the possible exception of Stanford, which is very sought after. Don't let that stop you from applying, though.
2 :
No. Colleges only look for what YOU do not what the school does. True they look at some things about the HS where you came in but not really. They are mostly concerned with YOU.
3 :
Don't worry I don't think they will deny you based on the school you attend, it seems to me that you have been very involved. I should know, I got accepted to UCLA, UC Berkely, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Merced (they were the only ones I applied to) and I wasn't involved in school, I got a 1010 on my SAT, and my weighted GPA was 4.2. However, I do believe that they look for someone who shows determination and really tries in school. And chances are that you are one of the many students under a program that allows for students to be admitted to at least one University when applying.

I was valedictorian of a small high school of 250 students in Illinois. My 30 ACT and 1240 SAT (20 years ago, I have no idea how it compares to today) were somewhere in the top ten percent. When I took the tests, I allowed them to send my scores to schools that might be interested. I was inundated with small liberal arts schools' flyers from all over the Midwest and beyond. I went to Illinois. Admission was pretty painless - a good class rank and test scores will go a long way, as they won't look too deeply into your individual school. If you are taking the best college prep program available, that's all you can do. My high school had no AP courses, didn't have calculus, only one year of chemistry, physics was offered only every other year. My high school counselor was so lazy he looked at me when I was a sophmore looking to schedule my junior classes and commented that "You might want to go to college." He then suggested the local community college. I looked at him and went, "What do you think about Northwestern?" He looked at me like why do you want to make me work? And I then proceeded to torture him by teasing all those small liberal arts schools sending flyers by requesting more info - heck a bunch of them sent recruiters just to see me, so the counselor had to deal with setting up all these visits. It really irritated him because he knew I was going to either Northwestern or Illinois. And your wanting to go to the Bay area will probably help you. Schools like diversity, and being from small town Alabama will be a plus - whereas it might be a negative if you were looking at 'Bama or Auburn. Nobody will know much about your school in the Bay area. And when I got to Illinois it wasn't long before I realized that the kids from the monster academic suburban schools might have had harder classes in high school, but they weren't any smarter than I was. Most of them because they went to big schools could not be involved in many activities, and had no clue how to do time management. And they had never experienced failure; when you play sports and do drama and band and chorus and whatever at a small school, you've dealt with failure at some point. They would get a C on a paper or something and just freak out - rather than analyze what went wrong. You should have no further problems getting into school than anyone else. Berkeley and Stanford are hard to get into period, but you should have a good chance of getting in.

About help with how college works and will this plan work for me

Help with how college works and will this plan work for me?
I currently live in Sacramento. I am a senior in High School and am graduating in December. Just for more info, I don't mind starting college Spring of 2010 or Summer/Fall 2010. So basically, I want to go to school in So Cal, however I don't know much about what schools are best for me and how to transfer. I read about some schools and was wondering if going to Santa Ana College to get my Gen Ed done with and then transfer to UCLA, would work? Is there a "guarranteed admissions contract" to trans for SAC to UCLA?
Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers

1 :
There are no guarantees for admission or transfer. Transferring into a college requires you to earn very good grades for your general ed in order for you to be accepted into UCLA. Prior to that, make sure that Santa Ana College is fully accredited, and make sure that UCLA will accept the transfer of credits for any classes you take. If you take the wrong classes, or if Santa Ana is not fully accredited, you may have to re-take a lot of classes in order to make up credits. A 101 class at a College is NOT always equivalent to another 101 class in another college or university. Highly rated schools such as UCLA are much harder and they know it, and they know that other schools will not be at their level. Go to US News & World report to find out detailed information on colleges, and average GPAs of transfer students. UCLA is one of the best universities in the country, and their admissions requirements will be very difficult to meet. Some universities still look at your high school grades and transcripts for transfers, so I hope yours are good. Good luck.

Stay in high school!!! You have to finish High school. If your High school has any amature theater than join them. And take acting classes. Don't quit High school. If you do that and then start taking acting classes then you might find out one day that acting isin't for you but than you cant go to college because you havin't finished High school and that would not be good. So finish High school! You can take acting classes while your in High School. After High School you can either go take a BA in acting or move to a major city (New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Miami...) and take acting classes and try to get parts in independent films and amature theater. You have to build up your resume. Acting classes, roles in independent films and amature theater look good on resumes. When you have built up a resume you can get an agent. But don't think that getting an agent is going to make things easy for you. The agent can get you to auditions but they won't get you roles. Being an actor is very hard work. Being an actor is more that a full-time job. You have to be willing to put all your energy into your career if you are going to be an actress! I hope this helpes. Good luck.
2 :
Okay, are you just saying that you've had a tough life to give you sympathy? There are so many actors out there who've had tougher lives than you. That attitude will take you nowhere. Charlize Theoren saw her mom kill her father. Just because you want it badly doesn't mean you'll make it there. No one's going to hire someone who wants it so BADLY, but isn't good at all. People want confident, determined people who are determined to go through losses. And if you drop out of high school, you might as well say goodbye to the acting business.

About Owning a Motorcycle in Southern California

Owning a Motorcycle in Southern California?
As we all know gas prices are quickly rising to outrageous prices, for myself owning a V8 Titan and not being able to get rid of it to save my life is killing me every month on the gas bill. Even though it freaks my girlfriend out I am strongly thinking about getting a Honda cruiser or something a long those lines. Some bikes are 5 grand brand new and get nearly 50mpg, only costing about 20-30 bucks to fill up. I wanted the bike to go to and from work Huntington Beach to Santa Ana (11 miles). I wanted input from people living in the Orange County area who use a motorcycle to get to and from work, is it as scary as everyone makes it out to be? Is the danger worth the money you save? I need some convincing either way. Thanks for the help, Dom. Just a side note, I've never driven a motorcycle in my life. I'm only thinking about it because of gas prices and it seems and I've heard it's very relaxing and gives you a lot of freedom.

I live by Knotts Berry Farm, ride to work next to Long Beach Airport (10 1/2 miles). Are we comparing apples to oranges here? I've been riding for 33 years. Are you new/never rode/long time rider? Orange County's about the same as most places around here. You ALWAYS have to have your eyes open and your mind wrapped around what you're doing. The route you ride will make a difference. Some roads are less traveled than others, less traffic. But usually that's because of a reason, like many long red lights, etc. Like life itself, it's a trade-off.
2 :
I live in So California and have ridden off and on most of my life ,yes riding a motorcycle is dangerous but so is driving a car ,riding on the freeway is probably the most dangerous part of riding as car drivers don't look for you and they will change lanes right into you ,when your riding a bike you have to be very aware of what is happening it front of and beside you at all times it's when you let your guard down or take your mind off what your doing that something happens and you go down
3 :
I live in Northern California. You have a great advantage in California in that you can ride all year round, so you don't have to store the bike for several months every year. Yes, bikes are dangerous but there are ways to minimise the danger. Go to YouTube and search for 'motorcycle' and you'll see why they're so dangerous--it's the testosterone-poisoned young men that are dangerous, not so much the bikes themselves. 8^) If you want a cruiser you are probably already safer than the average rider--the average rider wants a hot sport bike. Cruisers are for relaxed, laid-back biking, which is safer. They are easier to ride, too, especially for newbies. And I think freeways are safer than city streets. Your biggest hazard are the people in the cars. They don't see you (because they don't LOOK for you!) They will pull into your lane, but you learn to anticipate that. You learn to stay out of people's blind spots. At least of the freeway everyone is in his own lane and going the same direction, there are no idiots backing out of driveways without looking, or making a left turn right in front of you. It's worth it to take the MSF course (Motorcycle Safety Foundation). You can hook up with them through your local DMV. Money well spent! You also need a helmet, and want a good abrasion-resistant jacket and gloves. About half of all motorcycle accidents (and fatalities) happen in the first year, so safety is your primary concern when starting out. There is more in the economic equation than gas. Bike tires don't last as long as car tires but cost as much. If the bike is chain drive you need a new chain and sprockets every 10,000-20,000 miles. OTOH Japanese bikes are as reliable and long-lasting as Japanese cars. I wouldn't recommend going out and buying a shiny new bike. You should get an older bike (I mean like 5-10 years old) for your first bike. You're going to be hard on your first bike! You're going to abuse the clutch, and you might even drop it once or twice before you get the hang of it. If you get an old 'beater', you can ride it for a year, then sell it for about what you paid for it. And by then you'll have a better idea of what you really want.

About Ipod radio remote

Ipod radio remote?
Hey All, This is mainly for people in LA and Orange County, I have an 80gb Ipod classic, about 6 months ago I purchased the “Radio Remote” for the Ipod which makes it possible to listen to the radio function on your Ipod. I work in Orange County, Santa Ana to be exact and I like listening to Kevin and Bean on KROQ in the mornings. Recently my IT department blocked ALL internet radio access to all employees which makes it impossible to listen online like I used to. I have a small radio at my desk but since I work in a giant 2 story building (corporate office) it’s REALLY hard to get reception. I was wondering if anyone had experience with the radio remote and maybe had a few tricks to get it to work better in an office building? Any help would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks! Dom. Just a side note, the building I work in does not have any open windows and I am not located to any of them anyways. I tried holding it higher, maybe it's just the building and there's nothing I can do :(

maybe putting it higher up, close to a (preferrably open) window? Otherwise, maybe ask your office to change this. Or just download some of your favourite podcasts from Apple, and listen to those! Sounds pretty mean if you ask me...

First off, working at disney will get you minimum wage no matter what, do not expect pay raises or benifits of any sort. Secondly, you can either work for Disney or many of the companies it contracts out to for services like: The people taking pictures at the entrances and troughout the park: Kodak The Winery at California Adventure many of the stage hands are self contracted to be employed directy by disney however, visit this link http://disney.go.com/disneycareers/disneyland/home/index.html
2 :
I would love to work at Disney! One of my friends worked at the Disneystore in the mall. She had all the perks of the rest of the "Cast Members" which included a certain amount of free entry to the park for the cast member and family, ability to shop at cast member only locations where there were items that the rest of the populations couldn't buy, and just the honor and thrill of working where every boy and girl dreams of working some day! If you don't find what you're looking for online then check out the disneystore in the Brea Mall, they may be able to help you. Good Luck!
3 :
There's a job placement office in Downtown Disney. Well not IN Downtown Disney, it's closer to the ESPN side of Downtown Disney...you know...at the end..away from the main area. Just go in and fill out an app or ask questions. Good luck.

Employers can't legally hire you due to their insurance restrictions; when you get older, try Knotts
6 :
well it's kinda impossible for someone your age to work because the law saids you gotta be 16 to be able to work and you need a work permit if you want to work at that age, sorry it can't be like the old days where you can just throw kids in factories lol
7 :
you can earn money online. my friend creates websites. that is a good source of income for him and it is really easy.
8 :
a grocery store im pretty sure wood have openings and wood let u my friend works at one and he is 15 just a guess not honestly sure though hope it helps
9 :
At 15 you can be a lifeguard as long as you have proper training.
10 :
When I was 15 I worked at coldstone creamery. A lot of restaurants hire hosts/hostesses at 15, which is good if you want to go into serving when you're older, they usually like prior restaurant experience, and that's a good place to start. Grocery stores usually hire at 15 as well, or any service work, like babysitting or lawn mowing or things like that. Some states have stricter laws for people under 16 (can't work as late or as many hours), but at least you can get some hours in! good luck!
11 :
If you have Kroger out there, Kroger hires 15 year olds.

I use to live in Buena Park! caddy corner to knotts on La Palma and Western. Apply at Knotts, restaurants, the malls and fast food places.

Check your local grocery store. I live in Florida and our grocerty stores name is Publix.. they hire 14 years olds.
14 :
see you got some great answers. you can baby sit or go walk dogs. but, you do need a work permit since you are under the age 16 and you have to compeate against a bunch of older people for that same job because our economy isnt doing to well. but if you want want just make a some good safe money enough to buy a new cell phone or supplies for school try this site here copy and paste http://recessionrecover.blogspot.com/ its free and easy to do and they pay you for filling up free offers hope which I do and I get checks in the mail. That's where i go to school, the one near my dad's house. But she just got a job here in Santa Ana. She says that I should either go to school here in Santa Ana so that she wastes less gas, Or move back with my dad. I'm not sure what to do. I love my school at my dad's, But I love living with my mom. What should I do? Should I go to school here in Santa Ana, or should I live with my dad in Riverside to stay at the school that I attend right now?

About Do you think the protesters of the az law with make a stop by Santa Ana to help out Roberto Jacobo Reyes

Do you think the protesters of the az law with make a stop by Santa Ana to help out Roberto Jacobo Reyes?
SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspected predator has been arrested, accused of breaking into Orange County homes and assaulting young woman and girls as young as 11. The suspect is behind bars in Santa Ana, facing charges he broke into at least five Orange County homes and assaulted women and girls ranging in age from 11 to 22. Police say the suspect is a husband and father who was in the country illegally. He worked as a landscaper and police say they believe that may have been how he found his alleged victims. Police arrested Roberto Reyes after DNA left behind in the bedroom of an 11-year-old girl in Santa Ana last February allegedly pointed to him. "He started to sexually assault her. She woke up," said Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. "He's scared, he ran off." Detectives questioned the 47-year-old Reyes about four other unsolved Santa Ana cases. Police allege he confessed. "He just that, 'yeah, those in fact were me,'" said Bertagna. Police say the Orange County landscaper entered homes through unlocked windows and doors. His alleged victims are between 11 and 22 years old. The suspect is now in custody for assault to commit rape and burglary. Authorities say Reyes has a long criminal history, going back to the mid-1990s. The charges include peeping, possession of stolen property and DUI. "He's been here a long time and he's repeated over and over what he's done," said Bertagna. "He was convicted for the burglary in 2002. He was deported to Mexico, then apparently returned and so who knows how long this has been going on?" http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/orange_county&id=7449252 He is a husband and father and they say they do not separation of Mexican families , so will Roberto Jacobo Reyes catch a break because he is a husband and father ?

But its not his fault. Its American societies fault as we didn't give him riches and a 5 star mansion soon as he crossed illegally. Looks like they have fairly good evidence on the 11 year old girl. In my book there's no excuse or mistake to be possibly had and with that sexual assault and attempted rape on a 11 year old deserves death. If his kids complain consider them accomplices.
2 :
He will serve time in a Ca. prison. Then be deported so he can sneak back again. Illegals should be deported. It is not a concern to the law if they, through their own actions put their family in jeopardy of separation.
3 :
If an American citizen commits rape and is convicted he goes to jail and is separated from his family and justifiably so. This man should be in a Mexican prison for life and if by chance he comes here again he should be shot on site. His separation from family is the result of his own actions.
4 :
Good then they can deport him and his family with him. And take all the other annoying protestors with them.
5 :
Illegal aliens take what they want. The President and the govt. has more or less said they could have anything they want.
6 :
I would hope that the protesters of the Arizona law don't stop to help this man. I'd be even more disappointed with them if they did. The law that their protesting is in place to take care of a severe problem in the United States. It's absolutely ridiculous that they wouldn't support it. The law requires that immigrants keep their papers with them at all times, a reinforcement of the federal law that requires the same thing. This man is a criminal on different charges other than illegally immigrating into the country. He committed crimes against young women that are unforgivable. Rape, or sexual assault, is not something to be taken lightly. I hope that he is severely punished for his crimes. I can't see the protesters helping him.
