About Questions about makeup artists

Questions about makeup artists?
Hi! I am 17 years old and I am really hoping to pursue a career as becoming a makeup artist. I've researched about this position on the internet many times, but my questions don't seemed to be answered. I am planning to take a class at Glammin Studios in Santa Ana, CA and I was wondering if that would be enough education to become a professional makeup artist. Are there any specific courses which I need to take at a college? Also, what is the annual income of someone who works at MAC and the annual income of someone who works at fashion shows or on TV sets?

Here are three excellent schools in the Los Angeles area that you should look into - L.A. School of Makeup (aka Makeup Designory, or M.U.D.), Cinema Makeup School, and Westmore College. I toured all three and ended up choosing MUD, but they are all excellent schools. You can find all of these online. They do give tours. Just call ahead first. Also look into JoeBlasco dot com, and to find any more type in a search on "makeup schools Los Angeles". Good luck!

Don't bother going to school, it usually a waste of money. Instead find an artist in your area, pay his / her day rate and learn from them for a few days. You can also apprentice under established artists. Read all the FAQs on this site for tonnes of info http://p082.ezboard.com/bmakeupandrelatedindustries Someone who works at MAC as a salesperson is usually not a working artist, they are paid crappy, retail wages, because it is a crappy, retail job. They are SALES people, judged on how much product they sell, not on their makeup skills. BTW, a lot of make up artists are no longer using MAC products because of the lowered quality (no longer stands up to professional use) and their ethics are questionable. The range of artist pay is $0 to millions, it all depends on your talent and networking skills. It takes a long time to build up your name and client base so my advice is to soak up as much information as you can and practice, practice, practice. Check out the above site, it will give you more than enough information to start out.
